More than 40% of marriages end in divorce, according to the Office for National Statistics – and most of us will have been affected by one – whether it be our own, our parents’ or our children’s. Yet we don’t speak easily about the process or the fallout.

Amanda
Amanda split from her husband 12 years ago when he came out as gay. She believes the portrayal of divorce on some social media sites is misleading.
Amina
Amina left her marriage of 20 years after the toxicity of her relationship began to affect the children. She says single life is calmer, without fear or dread.
Ryan
Ryan began the divorce process in November 2020. He says men are on the backfoot and fought hard to share parenting with his ex.
Sita
Sita met her wife when she was 18 and split after 9 years. She says a divorce without children is hard because you mourn the family you hoped you were going to have.
